HS Business Course Offerings
Prerequisite: 11th or 12th Grade Status. Students must maintain an 85 average or greater.
Students interested in accounting, finance, or business management in college can get a
foundation now with this college-level accounting course. The topics covered are those in a
college introductory course. Students will learn to tackle the requirements of a college course.
This challenging course moves quickly through the textbook. Thinking about taking business
classes in college? This is a great course to take. Members of the class may elect to take the
course for 3 college credits from the SUNY Farmingdale Program.
Prerequisite: 11th or 12th Grade Status and College Accounting 1. Students must maintain an 85
average or greater.
This course is designed for the highly motivated, above average high school student who
has a strong interest in Accounting. Students will continue to apply the fundamentals learned in
College Accounting I through computer applications. This course will cover topics such as:
account classification, financial statements for Partnerships’ and Corporations, Retained
earnings, earnings per share, the Cash Flow Statement and managerial accounting. The computer
will be utilized to enhance the learning of the above topics. Members of the class may elect to
take the course for 3 college credits from the SUNY Farmingdale Program.
Prerequisite: 10th, 11th or 12th Grade Status
An investigation into the decisions necessary to plan, develop, implement and control
integrated sports marketing programs. Attention will be directed towards each major element of
the marketing industry--advertising, promotion, public relations and sponsorships. The emphasis
will be on the marketing of professional and collegiate athletes. Included will be the use of
marketing for teams, leagues and special events. The course will also focus on negotiations,
contracts and the role of the media. Members of the class may elect to take the course for 3
college credits from the SUNY Farmingdale Program.

Explore the challenges of investing by analyzing the basic business areas of management,
economics and finance in today’s business world. Students will develop an introductory
knowledge of the stock market (learn the ABC’s of investing) as well as banking, mutual funds
and 401(k) plans as retirement options. The use of current events is stressed. In addition, students
will relate how economic and business principles affect investments through participation in an
online stock market simulation game, guest speakers and classroom activities.

If you are looking for a course that will explore different aspects of law, this course
discusses the legal issues related to criminal law, employment law, tort law, corporate law, and
contract law. Students will utilize the Internet to do research projects, listen to presentations
from guest speakers, and participate in in-class mock trials. This is a fun course that lets students
explore the social and ethical issues related to personal and business law. Members of the class
may elect to take the course for 3 college credits from the SUNY Farmingdale Program.

– 12th Grade
This is a required course for all students seeking a business sequence. Students learn all
aspects of personal finance, balancing a checkbook, managing credit cards and other forms of
debt, filing taxes, and creating a household budget. Additionally, students will be introduced to
basic economic concepts, technological innovations, career clusters and majors, as well as
general business principles. Students will complete a High School Portfolio.

This course is designed to introduce students to the fashion industry. Focusing on the latest
fashion trends and designers, students will explore the world of fashion and acquire an
understanding of fashion terminology as well as the specific marketing strategies used in retail
fashion. A highlight of this course is a field trip to the Fashion Institute of Technology in New
York.
