Our agriculture program seeks to provide students with essential knowledge about food production, environmental sustainability, and the complex systems that support our society. This education not only opens doors to diverse career opportunities in the agricultural sector but also cultivates informed citizens who understand the critical role of agriculture in addressing global challenges such as food security, climate change, and resource management.
Introduction to Agriculture:
The introduction to agriculture course provides students with the opportunity to explore various aspects of the agriculture industry such as plant science, agriscience, and agribusiness. Students are Introduced to the principles and practices in the development, production, and use of horticulture crops.
Long Island Sustainability:
This introductory course provides students with a comprehensive overview of agricultural sciences, covering topics from plant and animal sciences to agricultural mechanics and modern agricultural trends. The course aims to expose students to sustainable practices, local farming heritage, and various career paths in agriculture, laying a foundation for further education in agronomy, horticulture, and sustainability.
Long Island Sustainability (I / II):
This comprehensive course surveys various fields of agricultural sciences, exposing students to sustainable practices, modern trends, and local farming heritage while encouraging participation in the Future Farmers of America (FFA). Following the New York State Agricultural Education program's three-component model, the course combines classroom instruction, leadership development through FFA, and work-based learning experiences.
