2011-2012 Budget Information
Budget Passed!
The Shoreham-Wading River School District would like to thank the community for supporting the proposed 2011-2012 school budget and propositions. The budget, which was approved 1,742 to 905, places the District in a strong position to continue providing a quality program that supports student achievement.
Proposition 2, which will allow storm drainage improvement , passed 1,705 to 874. In addition, Proposition 3, which will allow replacement of six underground oil tanks at four schools, was passed with a vote of 1,688 to 874.
The District would also like to congratulate incumbents Jack Costas and William McGrath for being reelected to the Board of Education. John Zukowski will also take a seat in the fall as the District’s newest trustee.
The Shoreham-Wading River School District is required by law (mandated) by the regulations set forth by the Commissioner of Education, as well as by the New York State and Federal governments, to provide certain programs and services. Many of these mandates are either unfunded or underfunded, leaving the district to shoulder the burden of the cost. We are required to implement each mandated item regardless of cost, and like all other districts throughout the state, are audited on our compliance. As the list of mandates continues to grow, the district’s operational expenses must increase to cover the funding. For a list of unfunded New York State and Federal mandates, please click here.
