ENUMERATION OF SPECIFIC PRIORITIES IF ELECTED:

• Providing a quality education to our children despite an acknowledged inequity in the State Aid formula, unique to Shoreham-Wading River, that annually deprives our District of our fair share of State Aid as compared to surrounding districts.

• Pressure must be placed on our elected representatives in Albany to remedy the State School Aid formula to ensure Shoreham-Wading River receives the Aid it is entitled to.

• In order to meet our obligations to the children and the taxpayers, it is imperative that we seek relief from unfunded State mandates, and to explore the consolidation of overlapping administrative services and service provider functions. A successful Board member must understand the current laws and legal limitations placed on the District, and the actions required to make the necessary changes.

CONTRIBUTIONS CANDIDATE CAN MAKE TO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT:

• Utilize a comprehensive knowledge of District Finances and the history of the inequitable State Aid formula to guide the District on a course of legal and political action to remedy this long term inequity, which unfairly harms the children and taxpayers.

• Use experience in commercial law to negotiate with School District vendors to ensure the District taxpayers receive the most cost effective services; extensive experience in Municipal Law will be useful to interpreting and navigating changes necessary to consolidate services for District.

• Litigation experience will allow for the oversight of legal expenses charged by District counsel, $350,000.00 for the 2010-11school year, to ensure accountability to the taxpayers and minimize costs.
