High School Students Explore University Math and Art Concepts

Shoreham-Wading River High School math students and math teacher Ellen Fraser visited the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics at Stony Brook University on April 23. The field trip included a lecture for high school students “Math is the Source Code of Human Mind” presented by Mathematician Edward Vladimirovich Frenkel, who works in representation theory, algebraic geometry and mathematical physics. He is a professor of mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley. Before the talk they visited the art exhibition “Flows of Reflectivity” in the Simons Center Gallery. They were provided with a picnic lunch after the question-and-answer session that followed the talk.

Wildcats Wow!

Congratulations to the SWR winter student-athletes who were honored at the April 8 Board of Education meeting by Athletic Director Mr. Eric Bramoff. thumbnail265756

Congratulations to the SWR winter student-athletes who were honored at the April 8 Board of Education meeting by Athletic Director Mr. Eric Bramoff.

The girls basketball, girls winter track, boys basketball, boys winter track, competitive cheer and wrestling teams were all applauded for being named Scholar-Athlete teams. Mr. Bramoff also congratulated student fencers Charles Pedersen and Joseph Losquadro for their combined athletic honors and “King” Charles for his county championship.

The winter sports student athletes brought numerous All-League, All-Academic, All-Star, All-County, All-State, All-Conference, league, county and state championship titles home. Gavin Mangano was named a two-time state champion, and the cheer team was named county and state champions. Basketball coach Adam Lievre and Cheer coach Brie Carlen were each named Coach of the Year. Mr. Bramoff also congratulated Wildcats wrestling coach Joe Condon for his 300th win this season. Coach Condon will be inducted into the New York State Wrestling Hall of Fame later this spring.

National DECA Qualifiers

Shoreham-Wading River High School students Ella Frazzetto and Catherine Leonard competed at the New York State Distributive Education Clubs of America competition.  thumbnail265757

Shoreham-Wading River High School students Ella Frazzetto and Catherine Leonard competed at the New York State Distributive Education Clubs of America competition. They will represent SWR at the DECA Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida later this spring. Ella won a spot in the Emerging Leaders Academy (one of only 11 students selected in the state). Catherine placed second in the Apparel and Accessories Marketing category.

They were honored by the Board of Education at the April 8 meeting along with teacher Melissa Cosgrove.
