More Than Just A Game

Before the first pitch was even thrown at the JV baseball matchup, the boys from Hauppauge and Shoreham-Wading River found a different way to connect—a friendly, pregame circle of hacky sack.
For a few minutes, there were no rivalries, no game-day pressure, and no distractions. Just a bunch of high school athletes keeping a little beanbag in the air, laughing, and simply being present.
With May being Mental Health Awareness Month, this was a beautiful reminder of what our student-athletes truly need: a great time to take a moment, step away from the stress of competition, and just breathe.
This is exactly what high school sports are all about. It’s about creating memories, building mutual respect, and prioritizing the joy of the game and the well-being of the players. Rivalries fade, but the mental resets and the memories stick around for a lifetime.
Shoutout to both teams for showing us what true sportsmanship—and taking care of each other—looks like!
