How We Communicate

The Shoreham-Wading River Central School District has adopted ParentSquare for school communication, primarily with email, text and app notifications. ParentSquare automatically syncs with our Student Information System to generate an account for each parent, using their preferred email address and phone number. This unified communications platform is designed to keep Shoreham-Wading River families informed and encourage greater engagement and connection with our school district.  It provides a safe way for district administrators, school principals, teachers, staff, parents, and guardians to:

  • Send and receive school and class information
  • Share pictures and files
  • See Clendar items
  • Sign-up to volunteer
  • And much more...all in one centralized place!

 

We encourage parents and guardians to access their accounts so they can download the mobile app and update their preferences on when and how they are notified.

What is ParentSquare?

ParentSquare is a unified communication platform that offers a whole host of tools which allows district, school administrators and teachers to more effectively communicate and engage with families and students.

Some features include:

  • Mass notifications and urgent alerts with two-way communication

As a registered parent, you can:

  • Receive messages from the school and district via phone, email, text, or app notification
  • Choose to receive information as it comes or all at once with a daily digest at 6pm
  • Communicate in your preferred language
  • Comment on school postings to engage with your school community
  • Direct message teachers, staff, and other parents
  • Participate in group messages from schools and teachers
  • Sign up for parent-teacher conferences
  • Sign up to volunteer, sign up to donate school supplies, and more all from your desktop or mobile device

Frequently Asked Questions

  • On the app, enter your email or cell phone number. The email and/or cell phone number should match what is in the school's information system (Infinite Campus) or database.

    On the web, click ‘Sign In’, then under ‘Register’ section, put your email or phone number and click '“Go”.

    If the email or phone number is not recognized by ParentSquare, parents can follow directions to request access or call the school office and ask them to update the contact information.

  • ParentSquare allows users to customize their notifications based on notification type and select their preferred delivery method for each school. The Instant setting will send all post notifications in real-time. The Digest setting sends direct messages, alerts, and time-sensitive posts instantly, but sends all non-time sensitive posts at the end of the day, reducing the number of notifications you receive daily. (We recommend the Digest setting.) Learn more about managing notifications.

  • Parents can update their language preference for their account. Once they have done this, ParentSquare will automatically translate any communication to them in their selected language. This translation will also occur when the parent sends a message to a staff member. Learn more about ParentSquare translations and how to set the language preference.

    1. Activate Your Account
      Click the link in your activation email/text, or sign up on the ParentSquare website or via the ParentSquare app.
       
    2. Download App
      It’s easy to stay in the loop with the ParentSquare app. Download it now. iOS | Android
       
    3. Set Preferences
      Click your name in the top right to set your notification and language preferences.
       
    4. Get Photos & Files
      Click ‘Photos & Files’ in sidebar to access pictures, forms, and documents that have been shared with you.
       
    5. Appreciate Posts
      Click ‘Appreciate’ in your email/app or website to thank a teacher or staff member for a post.
       
    6. Comment or Reply
      Click ‘Comment’ in app or website to privately ask a question about the post that your teacher or school sent.
       
    7. Participate
      Click ‘Sign Ups & RSVPs’ in the sidebar to see available opportunities. Click bell on top to check your commitments.
       
    8. Join a Group
      Click ‘Groups’ in the sidebar to join a group or committee at your school to participate or to stay up to-date.
       
    9. Find People
      Click ‘Directory’ in the sidebar to find contact information for school staff.
       
    10. Get in Touch
      Click ‘Messages’ in the sidebar to privately get in touch with staff and teachers.
  • Yes. All parents have a ParentSquare account. ParentSquare is the primary tool for district and school communication. Individuals who do not activate their account in ParentSquare will still receive an email digest at the end of each day that communication is sent out to them. In the event of emergencies, phone calls will be sent as well.

  • Click “Unsubscribe”  link on your email from ParentSquare or reply STOP to the SMS from ParentSquare to stop notifications to your email or phone.

    **** If the email or phone number is not recognized by ParentSquare, parents can call the school or registrar and ask them to update the contact information.

  • Invitation links only last for 24 hours but you do not need to wait for a new invitation to create your account! You can go to the ParentSquare login page here and activate your account with the same email address we have on file for you. Please see the instructions attached here to activate your account.

  • Please check your spam to see if any ParentSquare messages ended up there, and mark them as "Not Spam." Also add donotreply@parentsquare.com to your email contacts so your server recognizes our messages. If you still are not receiving emails, please contact the Technology Department at ParentSquareHelp@swr.k12.ny.us so we can assist you.

  • If you can’t sign into ParentSquare with your email or phone number, please contact your school’s main office to make sure your contact information is correct in Infinite Campus. To change your contact information in Infinite Campus, log into the Parent Portal. Under the side menu, click more. To request an update to your phone number and/or email, please go to Family Information. Select the user whose information you want to edit, and click Update under Contact Information.

  • If you wish to add another child to your account, you will have to ensure we have your most up to date contact information and that you are associated with your child within Infinite Campus. ParentSquare will always reflect the most current information we have received from the Infinite Campus.

  • Please go to ParentSquare - Sign-In and click "Forgot Password." Put in your email or phone number and you will be sent a link to reset your password.

  • Contact your child's teacher privately by using our direct messaging tool. On the home page, click on "Messaging" in the left sidebar. From here, you can send a direct message to your child's teacher that only you and the teacher can see. You can also send messages to other staff members at the school, such as your child's coaches and club leaders. Here is a link to the ParentSquare Support page on direct messaging.

  • In order to change your sign up, you must delete your existing sign up and sign up again for the correct slot. To delete your sign up, hover your mouse over your name and you will see a trash can appear to the right of your name. Click on the trash can and your sign up will be removed. Then, you can click on the "Sign Up" button that corresponds with the correct slot.

  • No. You can use ParentSquare both on your phone and a regular computer.
