Message from the Principal
Welcome to Shoreham-Wading River High School, where excellence thrives in every classroom, on every stage, and across every field. As we launch our newly redesigned website, I'm excited to share what makes our Wildcats community truly exceptional.
Our commitment to academic excellence is reflected in our prestigious Blue Ribbon School designation, awarded twice—most recently in 2019—in recognition of our outstanding educational programs. With well over 50% of our students participating in Advanced Placement and/or dual enrollment courses prior to graduation, we challenge every learner to reach their full potential while preparing them for success in college and beyond. Starting in the 2024-25 school year, all incoming freshmen were required to complete a digital literacy course, and in this coming year, in addition to Digital Literacy, all incoming freshmen will also take Career and Financial Literacy. As a district, we recognize and appreciate the importance of providing our students with the knowledge and skills needed to be successful after high school.
The arts flourish at SWR, where our talented students express their creativity through music, theater, and visual arts programs that inspire and engage our entire community. We are incredibly proud to be recognized six times by the NAMM Foundation as a "Best Communities for Music Education" district. We are also incredibly proud of our art students who have their work showcased at prestigious galleries like the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill and the Heckscher Museum of Art in Huntington. From our award-winning performances to student art exhibitions, creativity is woven into the fabric of our school culture.
Our athletic programs continue to set the standard for excellence on Long Island. Our Wildcats have claimed multiple team and individual state championships in addition to numerous league and county titles. While championships are celebrated here at SWR, what we truly embrace is the fact that year after year, our athletes are equally successful in the classroom. This past year, we were once again recognized as a New York State Public High School Athletic Association School of Distinction for having 100% of our teams earn Scholar-Athlete status during their respective seasons. These achievements reflect the dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship that define our athletic tradition.
What truly sets SWR apart is our close-knit community where every student is known, valued, and supported. We partner with families to ensure each child discovers their passions and develops the skills needed for lifelong success.
I invite you to explore our new website and discover the countless opportunities awaiting our students. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. Together, we'll continue building on our proud tradition of excellence.
Warmly,
Frank Pugliese
Principal

Important Information
-
National Honor Society is a nationwide organization that recognizes high schoolers that meet high academic standards along with supporting criteria of leadership, service and character. At SWR, juniors having a weighted cumulative high school GPA of 90 or above after the second marking period are then invited to apply to become a member of our NHS chapter. If at that point in their junior year students do not have a 90 GPA they are then reconsidered after the end of their junior year and can apply in the beginning of their senior year.
In addition to the GPA requirement, eligible students must show validated community service over the course of their high school career as well as leadership roles they have held in their school or community.
If inducted, students maintain their active member status by attending at least 7 of the 9 monthly meetings, participate in at least three of the NHS events and by completing four community service hours per month.
The students of SADD created a video to highlight Alcohol Awareness Month and Distracted Driving month. Please click here to view the video. They asked students, teachers and members of the SWR community to share their anonymous stories about how drunk driving has affected them. We thank them for their efforts in sharing these important messages with our greater community.
