Wildcat Words and Behavior Emphasized at Miller Avenue School

The District has a long-standing set of expectations for conduct on school grounds, based on the grounds of civility, mutual respect, citizenship, character, tolerance, honesty and integrity. At Miller Avenue School, these expectations were emphasized during a recent assembly with Suffolk County Police Officer Tyana Kurz, who spoke candidly to the students about bullying and appropriate language on campus and at home.
Officer Kurz discussed that bullying is the act of intimidating or mistreating someone who is in a more vulnerable position. She further discussed how inappropriate language can affect school climate, emphasizing some of the school’s Wildcat Words, words that give students the power to “light up your mind.”
The students not only enjoyed hearing from Officer Kurz but left the assembly feeling empowered and knowing that civility is what makes a school campus stronger.
