Celebrating the District’s Top Achievers

The Dec. 9 Board of Education meeting was an evening of celebration as the trustees and administrators proudly presented high school students with certificates celebrating their latest achievements.
The evening commenced with a choral performance by Lila Grosso, who was chosen as an Alto II for the Treble Choir Ensemble at the NYSSMA All-State Concert held at the Eastman Theater in Rochester last weekend. She performed seven unique musical selections with 100 of the best female high school singers from New York State.
Natalee Cortina, Ray Tang and Alexander Tishchenko were also honored for being selected as Commended Students in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program.
The board also congratulated students who were named Advanced Placement Scholars, AP Scholars with Honor and AP Scholars with Distinction.
Director of Physical Education, Health & Athletics Debra Ferry also recognized outstanding fall athletes and athletic teams. Ms. Ferry noted that all fall teams received the designation of Scholar-Athlete teams. To be recognized as a Scholar-Athlete team, the average GPA of the top 75% of the team roster must be greater or equal to 90%. Additionally, of the 197 fall athletes, 151 students received this personal designation. She also outlined playoff appearances by the girls tennis, girls soccer, field hockey, boys cross-country, boys soccer, boys golf, Game day Cheer and gymnastics teams. Furthermore, student-athletes on the boys and girls cross-country, field hockey, football, Game day Cheer, boys golf, gymnastics, boys and girls soccer, girls tennis and boys and girls volleyball also received certificates.
Ms. Ferry also recognized Coach Debbie Lutgen for achieving 300 varsity girls tennis wins in her 38 years of coaching and thanked her for her guidance, passion and inspiration to future leaders.
The recognition portion of the meeting concluded with a presentation by Director of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Joseph Paolicelli about the district’s robotics program at both the elementary and secondary levels. Robotics students also gave a demonstration on this year’s competition challenge, in which their robots must place game pieces into tube goals.
