Tribute to 1776

To celebrate America’s 250th birthday, Alice Steinbrecher’s second grade class at Miller Avenue School is dedicating the school year to special activities, the first being a tribute to the 76th day of school. The goal of this special day was to remind the students that the country was founded in 1776.
Students wore a personally designed ‘’76” T-shirt and created a “Declaration of Day 76,” to resemble the Declaration of Independence. This document stated that the 76th day of the school year should be celebrated and serves as a reminder of this day in history. The declaration also asks that no tests be given on the 76th day of school moving forward and declares that students throughout the school should say “7-6” instead of “6-7.” The declaration was also presented to Principal Claudia Smith to be ratified.
Students also took turns reading their new declaration, reenacting the public reading of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia’s Independence Square. The class also worked as a team to put together an American flag puzzle.
