Miller Avenue Students Learn About Being a Veterinarian through the Wildcat TRACKS Program

Miller Avenue School first graders in Alison Quenzer’s and Cara Behrens’ class and second grade student council members discovered the different ways to take care of animals thanks to Rocky Point veterinarian Marilyn Olds. During a recent visit, Dr. Olds spoke about the steps needed to be a veterinarian, shared some stories on her most memorable patients and explained how to take loving care of their own pets. She also provided coloring sheets for the students so they can reflect on the career information they received.
Dr. Olds’ visit was part of the district’s newly implemented Wildcat TRACKS (Teaching Real Applications through Community Knowledge Specialists) program. TRACKS is designed to bring community professionals into the district’s classrooms and to illustrate how the students’ education connects to real-world careers.
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Alan Meinster praised the program. “Together, learning is being made more meaningful by showing students that their education leads to exciting futures,” he said.
