Shoreham-Wading River Mock Trial a Presence in the Courtroom

In only the second year of competition, the High School Mock Trial Team has already established a strong presence in the courtroom. Competing in this year’s case, The People v. Carmen Erikson, which centered on the alleged theft of used cooking oil, the team successfully advanced to the playoffs held at the John P. Cohalan Jr. District Court in Riverhead.
Led by senior and lead attorney Harley Loscalzo, the team demonstrated impressive preparation, persuasive advocacy and strong teamwork throughout the competition. Students delivered opening statements, conducted direct and cross-examinations, and presented closing arguments as they worked to build their case before the court. Advancing to the playoff round in just their second year sets a strong precedent for the future of the program.
Congratulations to Joey Calandrillo, Ella Hendry, Khloe Jenkins, Harley Loscalzo, Kevin Loscalzo, Ava Mariani, Britney Putko Kayla Spitaliere, and team adviser Ann Gianfalla. The team was also coached by volunteer attorney Robert Frampton, whose guidance helped students develop their courtroom skills and deepen their understanding of the legal process.
The team’s hard work and dedication have helped “build the case” for a bright future for Mock Trial at Shoreham-Wading River High School.
