Tech Tub Takeoff

The Prodell Library Makerspace proudly launched “Tech Tub Takeoff,” a dynamic soft launch led by librarian Ann-Marie Kalin, introducing an exciting extension of the Makerspace that bridges hands-on learning with classroom curriculum.
Under her direction, students from Mrs. Vitale’s and Mr. Christensen’s seventh grade math classes were the first to experience a carefully curated collection of tech tubs spanning from low-tech creativity stations, including origami, Shrinky Dinks, paper construction, KEVA building blocks, K’Nex and Legos, all the way to high-tech robotics and coding tools. Among the highlights were Ozobots; Makey Makey, an innovative tool that acts as a bridge between the physical world and computer software, championing creativity at the heart of the maker movement; and a very special treat, Sphero Bolts, brought in through the expertise of Ed Tech coach Mara Healy from Eastern Suffolk BOCES.
Every center was intentionally designed to reinforce seventh grade math and computer science standards, making play the vehicle for rigorous, standards-aligned learning. The energy in the room was proof that when students are given the freedom to explore, create and problem-solve, engagement follows naturally. Tech Tub Takeoff is more than an activity; it is a flight plan for curiosity, with each tub serving as a launchpad for skills that travel right back into the classroom.
