Kid Wind Challenge

Mr. Driscoll’s 8th grade technology students, along with members of the Middle School Technology Club, participated in the Kid Wind Alternative Energy Challenge hosted at Stony Brook University.
The event brought together teams from schools across Long Island, with middle school students competing alongside high school students to design, build and test wind turbines powered by renewable energy.
Throughout the project, students explored the principles of energy transfer and conversion involved in wind turbine generators. They designed and tested various blade configurations, collected and analyzed performance data and used their findings to improve turbine efficiency and maximize power output. By experimenting with multiple variables and evaluating their impact on performance, students gained valuable hands-on experience in engineering design, problem-solving, and renewable energy technology.
