Students Dive into Hands-on Science Exploration

Shoreham-Wading River students spent a week exploring the world of science in collaboration with Brookhaven National Laboratory from Aug. 17-21. Open to students entering grades 5-8, the program provided hands-on opportunities to work alongside Brookhaven National Laboratory science educators and investigate topics including nanotechnology, solar energy and DNA extraction. Students participated in a variety of engaging labs designed to encourage curiosity, experimentation and discovery.

The week culminated with a visit to Brookhaven National Laboratory, where students heard from a guest speaker and put their learning into action by building a wet cell battery. The program gave students an exciting opportunity to explore STEM concepts while school was out of session for the summer, while gaining firsthand experience in scientific research and innovation.
