Racial Graffiti

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am writing to inform you that a racial slur was discovered written on a table at the Middle School. First and foremost, I want to express our deep disappointment and concern regarding this matter. Hate speech and slurs are completely unacceptable and go against our district's core values of mutual respect, inclusivity, and acceptance. Please be assured that we take these matters very seriously and are conducting a thorough investigation. Those found responsible will face strict disciplinary action in accordance with our Code of Conduct.

This type of behavior causes pain and sadness to individuals in our school community and contradicts the District's mission to provide and maintain a positive learning environment where everyone can feel accepted, safe, and respected. Our school district's primary goal is to ensure that every student and staff member feels valued and supported.
The District continues to actively educate our students about the importance of positive interactions and behavior through age-appropriate lessons and assemblies at each of our buildings. We remain dedicated to developing a culture centered on empathy and kindness and will continue to implement programs and supports that foster a welcoming and affirming atmosphere for all.

Building community and inclusivity is an ongoing priority, and it is important that we work together to successfully achieve this goal. As our partners in education, I ask for your continued support. Please take this opportunity to speak with your child about this hurtful incident and reinforce the importance of kindness and respect for all individuals. Please take a moment to clearly advise them of what constitutes hate speech and remind them that this type of behavior is extremely hurtful to others and will never be tolerated. It is imperative that they understand the impact their words and actions can have on them personally, as well as their fellow peers.

If you have any concerns or information about this matter, please feel free to reach out. Together, let us continue to work to ensure our schools remain respectful and inclusive places for all.

Thank you for your attention to this matter and your continued support.

Sincerely,
Gerard W. Poole

Superintendent of Schools
