Board of Education Meeting

Tuesday, April 21, 2026

Highlights:

Ex- Officio Students Trustees, Reilly Kenneally and Ray Hidaka, gave updates on High School happenings, sports, and upcoming events.

In his Superintendent Report, Mr. Poole highlighted some of the many events, activities, and accomplishments taking place throughout the District and specific to each building.

Mr. Heyward recognized three staff members who were granted tenure: Mr. Vincent Ball, Ms. Lauren Biscardi, and Ms. Brittany LaValle.

Ms. Ferry presented the final Athletic Handbook for Student-Athletes, Parents and Coaches. This was a collaborative effort throughout this year with student-athletes, parents, coaches, and administration to meet several times with the intent to update the District’s current handbook. The Board of Education received another presentation in a series of budget workshops for the 2026–27 school year, presented by Mr. Arcuri. The proposed budget totals $90,034,735, reflecting a 0.8% increase in expenditures and a 2.84% tax levy increase of $61,789,092. The budget maintains current programs, achieves $1,700,000 in strategic position reductions largely through attrition and retirement, and reduces reliance on fund balance by 22%. The Budget and two propositions were approved by the Board of Education. Proposition #2 authorizes a land conveyance to the Town of Brookhaven, which will fund and facilitate significant safety improvements near the Middle School. These improvements include the installation of a dedicated turning lane and a traffic light on Randall Road; both fully paid for by the Town of Brookhaven. Together, these enhancements will provide more controlled arrival and dismissal traffic flow and greater protection for student walkers along Randall Road. Budget Presentation

The Board adopted the Budget for the May 19, 2026 Budget Vote and Election. The Board also approved several resolutions, including Summer Community Programs brochure, several Special Education contracts for the 2026-2027 school year, and several Real Property Tax Law and Exemptions.
