Afterschool Playground, Court, and Field Use

Posted Date: 06/09/26 (03:43 PM)

Dear SWR Families,

We love seeing our students make use of the playgrounds, basketball courts, and fields at our elementary schools after the school day ends. Our fields and courts welcome students of all ages, families, and athletic groups throughout the afternoon and evening hours. These are great spaces for children to be active and have fun, and we want to make sure everyone continues enjoying them safely.

A few reminders as we head into warmer weather:

  • Young students using school grounds after school should be with an age-appropriate supervisor. The District does not provide afterschool playground supervision.
  • School rules and expectations are always in effect on school property, including afternoons and weekends. Conduct on school property is subject to the Code of Conduct.
  • Please remind children to stay off structures not meant for climbing. We have had some recent incidents of students climbing a shed, which is a safety concern and is not permitted.
  • E-bikes are not allowed on fields, playgrounds, or courts. Students may not bring e-bikes onto the Miller Avenue, Wading River, or Prodell Middle School campus at all.
  • Bikes are not allowed on fields.
  • Dirt bikes are prohibited on all campuses.
  • Athletic groups must apply for facilities use per District policy for any events or practices.
Thank you for helping us keep these spaces safe and welcoming for all of our kids. We appreciate your partnership.

Sincerely,
Gerard W. Poole
Superintendent of Schools
