New Leadership

Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s),

I would like to share several administrative changes that will take place in our district for the upcoming school year. Retiring this year include our Middle School Principal, Mr. Vann; our Director of Technology, Mr. Peter Esposito; our Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, Mr. Brian Heyward; and our Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, Mr. Meinster.  Additionally, our Middle School Assistant Principal, Ms. Lauren Biscardi, has resigned from her position.

Replacing Mr. Esposito is Ms. Kassandra Nitti who has served successfully for several years as our Assistant Director of Technology. The new Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources will be Dr. Megan Sheehan who most recently served as a principal in the Port Washington School District. The new Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment will be Dr. Jennifer Lewner who most recently served as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the Valley Stream 30 Central School District. All three administrators bring exceptional educational leadership skills, a passion to support all students, and a collaborative approach to working with staff.

Mrs. Claudia Smith, the current Miller Avenue Principal will become the Principal of the Prodell Middle School. The new Prodell Middle School Assistant Principal will be Mr. Jonathan Lilla who is currently successfully serving as a High School Assistant Principal. They are both excited about the opportunity to lead and support our students and staff at the Middle School. Mrs. Smith is looking forward to reconnecting with former students and families next year.  Mr. Lilla will be working with Mr. Vann over the summer to prepare for the upcoming school year. I expect to identify a new Miller Avenue Principal mid-summer, at which time Mrs. Smith will transition fully to her role at the Middle School.

Thank you to our departing administrators for their many years of service to our students. I wish them the best into the future. At the same time, I am excited about the addition of our new administrators and look forward to the positive impact they will have on our programs, staff, and students.

Sincerely,
Gerard W. Poole
Superintendent of Schools
