Students in Shoreham-Wading River High School’s ASL (American Sign Language) courses recently attended a performance of The Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall. The performance was interpreted in ASL by Hands On, an organization dedicated to making cultural arts accessible to the deaf community and individuals with disabilities. The SWR students sat in front of the interpreters, observing their interpretation of the songs and characters throughout the performance.
“It was exciting for them to recognize the signs being used and to appreciate the artistic way in which the show was translated,” said ASL teacher Kathrine Ziegler. “Interpreters Lusanne Massaro and Dylan Geil, from Hands On, were truly inspiring. Shoreham Wading River’s ASL program was proud to represent our district, support Hands On, [which relies on grants and donations to continue their important work] and be part of this unforgettable experience.”
