Who was that beautiful black labrador retriever visiting Miller Avenue School this week?
Second graders in Lyndsay Laudato’s class welcomed a four-legged friend, Tessa, adorned with her red plaid holiday ribbon, for some seasonal cheer.
One of Ms. Laudato’s students, Vincent Dayan, invited his aunt, Torie Martorana, and Tessa, a three-year-old certified therapy dog, to the classroom. Tessa was originally trained as a guide dog, but due to allergies was reassigned to her new heartwarming role: visiting patients and staff at a cancer hospital.
Together, Tessa and the students read Glenna Lang’s “Looking Out For Sarah” a story of friendship, loyalty and trust about a visually impaired woman and her guide dog. Tessa also visited Mrs. Franquiz/Conklin's kindergarten class for some stories and hugs from the students.
