Wading River School fifth grade teachers Emily Kravitz and Melissa Levonick presented at the Long Island Council for Social Studies on Oct. 25. During the session, the duo discussed the new Nassau BOCES Social Studies Curriculum for grades 3-5.

The educators presented to teachers, directors and principals. Mrs. Levonick highlighted how the units and materials were developed and showed attendees how to access them. Participants had the opportunity to review the units and examine student work samples. Ms. Kravitz addressed the attendees as a pilot teacher, discussing her own experiences of implementing the units.

The curriculum has already been adopted by close to 30 school districts across Long Island.

Mrs. Levonick and Wading River teachers Tonia Ammirati, Nicole Collins, Kelly Ryan-Jiminez, Jen Simicich, Jill Stevenson, and Meredith Trani are authors of this curriculum.
