Global Awareness Club Acts Locally

The Shoreham-Wading River High School Global Awareness Club leadership recently planted seven forest pansies along the driveway leading to the campus. The Club donated five of the trees and two were graciously donated by Verderber Nursery and Garden Center in Riverhead.

“The students began talking about a legacy project at the end of last year, as Katelyn Roberts (president), Athena Sartain (vice president), and Rebecca Zoraksh (treasurer) will graduate this spring,” said Club adviser Brenna Gilroy. “They decided on these trees, Long Island natives, to beautify the campus and attract pollinators.”

The thoughtful project took into consideration that the high school’s Long Island Sustainability class’s apiary is close by.
