Seal of Biliteracy Honors for 10 Seniors

The Shoreham-Wading River School District Board of Education recognized 10 students with the Seal of Biliteracy award – a formal recognition of attaining a high proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation. This is the third cohort of students who have received this distinguished honor.

Students Shea Baran, Maya Beyersdorfer, Sophia Minnion, Killian O’Reilly, Megan Rayburn and Emily Scherl were honored for proficiency in Spanish and English. Maria DaSilva was honored for proficiency in Portugese and English. Elizabeth McErlean was honored for proficiency in French and English. Jiseung Moon was honored for proficiency in Korean and English and Dongkai Zhang was honored for proficiency in Chinese and English.

The students were introduced by District Director of Humanities Mrs. Nicole Waldbauer at the June 11 Board of Education meeting. Mrs. Waldbauer shared the significance of the honor and presented each student with award certificates and medallions. The students will also have a special notation in the graduation program and on their official high school transcript, as well as a special seal placed on their graduation diploma.
