Students in Prodell Middle School worked with librarian Ann-Marie Kalin to supplement their classroom studies.
Gregory Schmit’s seventh grade social studies students learned from the Long Island Library Resource Council’s Becoming the United States: Colonial America to Reconstruction exhibit.
The seven-panel poster exhibit was created by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History using items from their collection. It explores individuals, groups, and documents that have contributed to the history of the United States.
Students were tasked with reading the poster content to answer important questions. Mrs. Kalin also encouraged the students to check out a selection of Cobblestone magazines, a recognized leader in the study of American history for young students.Gregory Schmit’s seventh grade social studies students learned from the Long Island Library Resource Council’s Becoming the United States: Colonial America to Reconstruction exhibit.

Among a selection of books Mrs. Kalin organized to enhance the lesson with was “We The People: The Constitution of the United States” by noted illustrator Peter Spier, who had numerous connections to the local community and used some of his artwork to depict regional landmarks.
