Educators from Shoreham-Wading River attended the 30th Annual ASSET conference on March 24. Hosted by the Association of Suffolk Supervisors for Educational Technologies, this year’s theme, “Connecting the Dots: Balancing Purpose, People, and Possibilities,” set the tone for a day filled with learning, collaboration and inspiration.

Keynote speaker Dr. Joe Sanfelippo delivered an energizing message that resonated with attendees. Ann-Marie Kalin, the library-media specialist at Albert G. Prodell Middle School shared “Joe Sanfelippo was AWESOME—I’m reading his book now and already using his ‘Give Yourself A Chance’ mantra with my students!”

The breakout sessions also proved to be impactful for attendees. Lynn Losquadro, a math teacher at Prodell shared, “I was impressed by how easily I could import content and use AI to generate assignments tailored to my students’ needs.” She added that she has already implemented one of the assignments in her classroom with great success, demonstrating how the conference’s takeaways are being put into action right away.

Attendees also connected with several familiar EdTech partners, including SchoolAI, a product already in use across the SWRSD. These conversations helped strengthen understanding of the tool’s potential and how it can further support student engagement and personalized learning.

“The day sparked thoughtful conversations and ideas that will carry back into classrooms and libraries across the district – from discussions around digital citizenship and cybersecurity to hands-on exploration with vendors,” Assistant Director of Technology Kassandra Nitti said.

The takeaway? A renewed interest in enhancing access to meaningful, engaging technology experiences for all students.
