During the month of May, Shoreham-Wading River High School’s Global Awareness Club collected eclipse glasses for Astronomers Without Borders, whose aim is to “support projects that allow those in developed countries to share with others, making it possible for everyone to enjoy the wonders” of the sky.
“The club leadership was keenly aware that our community had plenty of eclipse glasses from the 4/8 solar eclipse, and rather than them take up space in a landfill, they took action to collect them for a good cause,” Adviser Brenna Gilroy said.
Ms. Gilroy reached out to Geri Monzillo at Berkshire Hathaway Home Services in Miller Place, who was listed as a depository for Astronomers Without Borders, and they coordinated a time to drop off the collection of nearly 100 glasses. Berkshire Hathaway Home Services is still taking glasses for the organization.
